Hot, Hot, Hot…

... Heatwaves are becoming more frequent it seems, and Maine is no exception to the trend.  Combined with drought across the state, the impacts are increasing. Member station WBUR is highlighting new, easier-to-access tips for withstanding extreme and sustained heat.

Sen. Susan Collins joined efforts with Sen. Joe Manchin around changes to the electoral counting process. Manchin has recently been making news over a deal with the Biden administration around the president’s climate agenda.

Plus, a look at navigating public transit as an immigrant to Maine, efforts to slow down ships to protect whales, the passing of a Green Party founder, and a story you might get “bogged” down in.

Stay cool,

Mark

We are celebrating 60 years of Maine Public telling Maine’s stories and we’ve put together 60 cool factoids about Maine Public and the content we have shared with our audience over the years. Here is factoid #58:

In 2015 we were feeling especially ambitious and decided to scour Maine for “the next great NPR voice.” Cue the launch of The Microphone Project. We created sample scripts and set up “recording sessions” at events throughout the year, including the Common Ground Country Fair. We chose a top voice, and that individual did the television voiceover work for the project’s sponsor, Goodwin Volvo. #mainepublic60
