Will Amazon Deliver Your Healthcare Needs?

In this week’s blog, IMF Chairman of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Brian G.M. Durie tackles the recent signed agreement between Amazon and One Medical. The acquisition of the primary health care firm by the multinational technology company is sparking numerous concerns—with massive implications to the future of primary care, healthcare delivery, and health equity for myeloma patients. He also brings to light the limitations of artificial intelligence and why it will take longer before computers and machine learning can become reliable in providing answers to patients. Turning into the news, Dr. Durie discusses the latest FDA emergency use authorization for new COVID-19 Bivalent boosters along with proper guidance. He piques our curiosity on ways to escape aging and elaborates on “biologically immortal” and long-living creatures. He then closes his blog with a sense of optimism, as he looks forward to new advances bringing better outcomes for myeloma patients, to better protection from updated COVID-19 boosters, and to beneficial discoveries that may be gleaned from studies of long-living creatures.
