Key Takeaways from the 2022 IMWG Summit

IMF Chairman of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Brian G.M. Durie elaborates on key takeaways from the recently concluded 13th Annual International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) Summit, which was held in Vienna, Austria from June 7-9, 2022. In his blog, Dr. Durie brings a 2022-2026 perspective and highlights key points from presentations made by myeloma experts on a variety of topics: a summary of the results and findings from the iStopMM screening of more than 80,000 individuals; an evaluation of simple precise testing as a means to identify high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma (HR SMM); results of various treatments for HR SMM; an assessment of the current status of minimal residual disease (MRD) testing; and more! This Week: IMF Virtual Regional Community Workshop (RCW) - New England

The IMF Regional Community Workshop – New England will be held this Saturday, June 18 at 7:00 a.m. PT/ 8:00 a.m. MDT/ 9:00 a.m. CT/ 10:00 a.m. ET. IMF Senior Director of Regional Community Workshops Kelly Cox will kick off the workshop. Guest speakers include Rafat Abonour, MD, (Indiana University—Indianapolis, IN), Raymond Comenzo, MD (Tufts Medical Center—Boston, MA), and IMF Nurse Leadership Board (NLB) Member Kimberly Noonan, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCN (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute—Boston, MA). The workshop will include an introduction to myeloma, upfront treatments at diagnosis, maintenance therapy, relapse information, and an update on clinical trials. IMF NLB Member Kimberly Noonan will talk about managing side effects and symptoms of myeloma and its treatments. After each presentation with the experts, attendees will have ample time to ask questions.

Las Voces De Mieloma Support Group (Spanish-Virtual Meeting) on June 21

Las Voces de Mieloma Support Group  will hold its Spanish virtual meeting on June 21, Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time). Guest speaker will be Prof. Jesús San Miguel who is currently Director of Clinical and Translational Medicine at the University of Navarra and Medical Director of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Previously, he was Professor of Medicine at the University of Salamanca, Head of the Hematology Service of the University Hospital (22 years) and President of the International Myeloma Society. He has been Associate Editor of Blood and Hematologica and member of the advisory committees of the European Hematology Association, the Leukemia Research Foundation, the International Myeloma Foundation, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. He has received numerous awards, including the recent Gregorio Marañón National Research Award for the area of Medicine 2021, previously the "KNAW Bob Pinedo Cancer Care Award 2020" awarded by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Bob Pinedo Cancer Care Foundation, the International Waldenström Award, Kyle Life Achievement Award, Jose Carreras Award, Ham-Wasserman Lecture Award, Celgene Life Achievement Career Award, EBMT Lecture Award, Michaeli Award and the King Jaime I Award for Medical Research.
