Today we’re asking you to help fund the next phase of this fight because the companies we’ve spent decades holding accountable are winning protections they never should have received.
We have been at this for over three decades now, and here is the plain truth of why the Organic Consumers Association still exists. Nobody else was willing to say out loud what needed saying. When Monsanto told the world that glyphosate was safe, we said it wasn't. We said it years before the lawsuits, years before the juries, years before Bayer's 2018 purchase of Monsanto handed it a mess it's been quietly trying to buy its way out of ever since. They called us alarmists and fringe, but we were right, and the science eventually caught up to prove it. Because we said something when no one else would, people questioned Roundup, cut back on it, or stopped using it altogether, years before most had any idea it posed a real risk to their health.
That's years of exposure some families never had to carry, long before anyone else picked up the rallying call.
That kind of independence isn't free. It exists because people like you decide, year after year, that keeping this organization alive matters. We don't run ads for the companies we investigate, and we don't accept grants with strings attached from foundations tied to the same agribusiness giants we're trying to hold accountable.
Every dollar you give keeps the lights on. It keeps our researchers digging, our staff writing the next alert, our social media team getting the word out to millions of people every day, and our lawyers in the room when it counts. That makes you part of how this organization survives, not just someone reading about it after the fact.
Right now we're watching the same pattern repeat itself. A handful of corporations control roughly 60 percent of the world's seed and pesticide markets, and Big Tech is buying its way into farmland and data on top of that. The Farm Bill sitting in front of Congressional hands, with even more room for that consolidation to grow unchecked.
Press releases alone won't slow any of this down. What moves it is sustained, expensive pressure, lawmakers who actually hear from constituents, investigations solid enough to hold up in court, and actions organized well enough to work, the way our Millions Against Monsanto campaign did when everyone said it couldn't be done.
There's one alert in front of us right now that goes well past the courtroom. The Supreme Court just ruled in Monsanto v. Durnell that Bayer can't be sued for failing to warn people that Roundup causes cancer, because the EPA approved a label that happened to leave the warning off. Trump followed that with an executive order handing Bayer legal immunity under the Defense Production Act for producing glyphosate and mining the phosphorus that goes into it.
Everyone's calling this a fight over the right to sue, and it is that, but underneath it is something even bigger.
Those lawsuits were never just about paying victims after the damage was done. They were the one real cost that ever made Bayer and Monsanto think twice before dumping toxins into the groundwater under Muscatine, Iowa, or turning wildlife habitat outside Yellowstone into a moonscape of radioactive phosphate mining waste. Take away the liability and that cost disappears. Rules get tightened and lobbied loose again, but liability sticks, which is why losing it means poisoning our soil, water, pollinators, and food, stops costing Bayer anything at all.
This is exactly the kind of moment our work has to be funded and ready for, before the damage is done, not after.
We've watched what happens when organizations like ours run out of runway right when they're needed most, and we're not going to let that happen to us. Staying ahead of it means asking the people who've already shown up for this fight, now, not later.
Your donations fund the researchers connecting the dots the industry hopes no one follows, and the staff putting out the next warning before the next disaster hits.
It's the same reason we caught glyphosate years before anyone else did, and it's what lets us keep watching what's coming next, on GMOs, on synthetic foods, on whatever the industry tries to slip past regulators next. It keeps nearly thirty years of this fight going for another thirty.
