Food Bank of the Rockies has officially opened its new distribution center in east Aurora. The 270,000-square-foot facility was intentionally designed to meet the urgent and growing needs of our neighbors facing hunger across Colorado and Wyoming. Since 2006, we have quintupled the amount of food we distribute to meet the needs of a growing number of neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Our new distribution center will allow us to double our food storage capacity, expand cold storage space for fresh and frozen foods, triple volunteer capacity, and quadruple the number of kids meals we are delivering to afterschool and summer programs. From day one, our new home will save the organization $500,000 per year in overhead expenses. Those savings will be redirected to provide more food for our neighbors, made possible through increased efficiencies and the consolidation of all Denver-area operations under one roof. Read More
