Dear Colleague,
The European Union is developing a new strategy to accelerate the deployment of fusion energy as a sustainable energy source. As a promising advanced source of abundant, firm, safe, and zero-emissions power, it has the potential to build a fusion energy sector that can compete on the global stage.
However, for fusion energy to be a driver of European competitiveness, the European fusion ecosystem must modernise and evolve to reflect the progress of the global private fusion energy industry. Although Europe has long been a leader in global fusion research, plasma science, and technology, it now risks falling behind as international competitors take the lead in commercialising fusion energy. While Europe has the talent, infrastructure, and resources to lead the world in fusion energy innovation, it currently lacks the necessary policies and enabling frameworks to effectively translate this innovation into commercialisation.
