Meet the 2025 Denver Metro Area Volunteers of the Year!

What We Are Hearing From Community Members

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we have been celebrating our incredible crew of volunteers all month (okay, all year) long! In 2024, volunteers donated more than 148,000 hours across our service area. That’s equivalent to 71 full-time employees and a 31% increase in volunteer hours over the previous year — a truly incredible gift of time, energy, and compassion.

One way we honor their efforts is by choosing individual and group award winners. It’s always hard to choose from the thousands of people who dedicate their time and passion to further our mission, and we are deeply grateful to each and every individual who commits any of their time to supporting our mission. This year, we are happy to honor two individuals and two groups as our 2025 Denver Metro Area Volunteers of the Year. Born and raised in Delta, Janeen often takes care of her three grandkids, so the food she collects at Food Bank of the Rockies’ Delta Mobile Pantry “helps a lot,” she said. There’s not much left over from her Social Security income after paying the bills, said Janeen. At the pantry, she said she looks forward to receiving “the basics,” such as meat and eggs.

Hunger affects every aspect of life, whether that’s childhood development, preventing medical issues, or just having the energy to live fully. Here, we dive into how food insecurity is defined, its impact on our community, and what we are doing to address its root causes.

A Night With(out) Raises Awareness

Our recent event invited people to join us for an immersive dinner designed to highlight the difficult choices people living with hunger face regarding budgets, nourishment, and making ends meet. Watch the video to hear from attendees on the impact of their experience.
