Walk Like MADD Northern Virginia
On Saturday, May 18, our first walk of the year, Walk Like MADD Northern Virginia, took place at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia at 9:00 am. Friends, families, and victims came together to honor loved ones injured or killed due to a drunk driving crash by walking a 5k around the park. Through walkers and donations, over $9,000 was raised to help eliminate drunk driving. Thank you to our sponsors, everyone who came out to the event, and everyone who donated. With your help, we are one step closer to eliminating drunk driving on our roads.

4th of July Impaired Driving Prevention: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving
When making your 4th of July plans for this year, it is important that choose to drive sober. If you plan on drinking, plan ahead with a designated driver or use a rideshare app to get home safely. If you are hosting, never let your friends drive home after they have been drinking. Offer them a couch to sleep on or help find them a sober ride home.
According to the Virginia DMV Interactive reporting system (treds.virginia.gov), between June 30 and midnight July 4, 2023, there were 122 alcohol-related crashes resulting in 80 injuries and 7 fatalities. The regional breakdown in crashes is Fairfax- 33, Portsmouth- 28, Richmond- 25, Staunton- 16, Roanoke- 12, and Bristol- 8.
Keep the roads safe this holiday and remember that buzzed driving is drunk driving. More information can be found here.
