Dear Friend,

I want to introduce you to three friends, William, Clifford, and Tommy, who we met one day at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco’s Tenderloin. They meet most days for breakfast which is one of three meals Glide serves every day in a tent in the church’s parking lot. While these friends prefer the days, pre-pandemic, when they were able to be in the church’s basement dining hall, having more space to spread out is safer for everyone during the pandemic. As Tommy says, “I like anywhere I can have breakfast.”

For these three, the daily meal they share is an opportunity to connect, to check on one another, and to build community.

On the last day of Hunger Action Month, I want to express my gratitude to you and to our entire community for coming together as a powerful force against hunger. Together we make a real change.
