This week I’m thinking about climate...

... and with the COP26 conference running this week, the timing is good. (Kevin Miller explained what it means for Maine last week).

The timing is also good to give you, our dedicated readers, a preview about an exciting project coming from Maine Public News.

Starting Monday, Nov. 8, we’ll be launching a new yearlong effort called, “Climate Driven: A Deep Dive into Maine’s response, one county at a time.” I’m including a preview conversation so you can learn more about our newsroom's approach, where we’re planning to go, how we’re going to get there, and how you can follow along. You can also watch a video previewing the series here.

You should also give a listen to Sir David Attenborough’s address to the COP26. Sir David is 95 - and still pushing for reform and conservation with passion. I know many of you have been following him since his “Living Planet” days on PBS… (VHS anyone?)

There was an election in Maine earlier this week and the results of those ballot referendum decisions are clear, but implications are still being sorted out. Our story selection this week will guide you through those results and questions.

Other picks this week include spicy space tacos, a guide to the streets of Port Au Prince, and where it’s forbidden to serve meat.

Stay tuned next week for our ambitious effort,

Mark

Maine Public's yearlong 'Climate Driven' series looks at each county's response to a warming planet

The United Nations' climate summit, called COP 26, is considered the last, best chance to slash carbon emissions and rapidly transition to clean energy. At Maine Public, we're using the moment to launch a deep dive series on climate change that will involve the entire news team for the next year and beyond.
