Together, they will break down the major anti-LGBTQ+ legislative trends emerging in 2026, explore what’s driving these attacks, and highlight the strategies advocates and communities are using to push back. The State Senate passed SB 934— Senator Scott Wiener’s critical bill giving conversion “therapy” survivors more time to come forward and seek justice—last month. Now we’re in the final push to get this bill to Governor Newsom’s desk. We need you to make sure the Assembly passes this bill!

Hawaiʻi 
Last week, Governor Josh Green signed into law a bill that shields Hawaiʻi providers, patients, and the people who help them from out-of-state attacks on lawful health care. Some states are trying to punish care that is fully legal in other states where it's provided — such as abortion, contraception, and gender-affirming care. HB 1875 can protect providers and patients from these attacks.

Michigan, Indiana and Tennessee lawmakers push ‘Nuclear Family’ proclamations to counter Pride Month. PFLAG National Vice President, Advocacy Katie Blair spoke out against these exclusionary efforts and underscores in her op-ed the importance of recognizing and affirming the diversity of people and families in her home state of Indiana.

New York - Two parents of trans youth report that Mount Sinai Health System will share their children’s medical records with the federal government. While parents have reported that hospital representatives called them to say their children’s health information would be shared with the federal government in response to a subpoena, the families’ attorneys have not confirmed that Mount Sinai has received a federal subpoena. 

Webster Town Board votes to remove Pride flag from town hall. Webster raised a Pride flag over its town hall for the first time this year, however, the town board voted 3-2 on June 4th for a new policy to only allow the American flag and the New York State flag to fly at town hall, requiring that the Pride flag be removed on June 5th. 

Ohio - Cleveland Clinic reaches deal with DOJ to stop providing gender-affirming care to trans and nonbinary youth. The agreement requires Cleveland Clinic to stop providing gender-affirming care to youth for at least 20 years, even if Ohio’s current anti-trans healthcare ban were to be overturned before then. Cleveland Clinic also agreed to commit $2 million towards detransition care. This represents the second hospital nationwide to set aside funds specifically for detransition care. 

Oregon - State’s attorneys resist federal court order to house incarcerated transgender women in women’s prisons. U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark D. Clarke ruled in favor of two incarcerated trans women in April, writing that the Oregon Dept. of Corrections must provide “a presumption of placement consistent with each woman’s gender identity absent a documented and articulable security justification.” State’s attorneys, however, have filed a motion that Judge Clarke reconsider or clarify his order and that the lawsuit could interfere with existing state correctional policies to the “detriment” of other incarcerated Oregonians. 

Texas - Attorney General Ken Paxton agrees to dismiss lawsuit against City of Denton over “Big Gay Swim Day” event. The Attorney General had filed a lawsuit against the city on May 28th, alleging that Denton was failing to proactively enforce Texas’s anti-trans bathroom ban for a planned “Big Gay Swim Day” event at a public pool when organizers of the event advertised there would be gender-neutral restrooms. The city confirmed it would follow the law and the event, hosted by PRIDENTON and OUTreach Denton, will take place. 

Tarrant County Commission votes down resolution recognizing LGBTQ Health Center. During a county commission meeting on June 9th, the commission considered multiple resolutions, including ones recognizing Juneteenth, fatherhood, America’s Semiquincentennial, and commending the work of the HELP Center for LGBTQ Health. While other resolutions passed, the commendation for the HELP Center failed 3-2.

Federal News

Federal judge blocks Justice Dept. (DOJ) effort to obtain medical records related to healthcare for trans and nonbinary youth. U.S. District Judge P. Casey Pitts issued an emergency order on June 8th directing Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford not to produce medical records of trans and nonbinary youth sought by a federal grand jury subpoena while the court considers pending motions in the case. The DOJ has subpoenaed similar medical records from NYU Langone Hospitals. 

Federal judge refers DOJ lawyers for possible discipline over their handling of investigation into healthcare for trans and nonbinary youth. The DOJ sought a federal court order to compel Rhode Island Hospital to turn over medical records of trans youth treated as the hospital. U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy accused DOJ lawyers of misrepresenting facts under oath and withholding information from federal courts "in an obvious effort to shield its recent investigative tactics — previously rejected by every other court to review them — from this Court's review, in favor of a distant forum that DOJ deems friendly to its political positions."

Federal judge hears arguments in case over Idaho’s anti-trans bathroom ban. On June 5th, U.S. District Judge Amanda Brailsford heard arguments over a request for a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of HB 752, which makes it a criminal offense for transgender people to use bathrooms and other sex-segregated facilities aligned with their sex assigned at birth.

Hungary - Authorities drop charges against Budapest Mayor over role in organizing 2025 Pride march. Former Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government banned Pride celebrations, but over 100,000 people marched on June 28th, 2025 in defiance of the ban. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony spoke at the march and was charged by the Budapest Chief Prosecutor’s Office in January with “organizing the unlawful assembly despite a prohibition order.” With the inauguration of a new government headed by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, Hungarian police announced that Budapest Pride could take place without interference this year and that charges against Karácsony were dropped.
