It’s already the sixth week of classes and things are picking up fast! Now is a great time for students to take advantage of the many resources for academic support, such as the tutoring lab, writing center, quantitative support, and academic coaching, especially ahead of midterms.

Studying abroad can be a transformative experience on so many levels. Between picking the “right” program and thriving in a new culture, it seems like there are countless decisions to make. In this session, the AU Abroad team shares how you can help your student choose a program, finance their studies, and access health and student services while overseas. There have been significant changes to the 2024-2025 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). In this session, we'll walk through the key elements of the FAFSA with AU's own Shirleyne McDonald, Director of Financial Aid. This session will focus on need-based (not merit-based) aid and is best suited for parents/sponsors of undergraduate students. In advance of this session, you may find it helpful to review information on the Financial Aid Office's homepage.

FAFSA Federal Student Aid, an Office of the U.S. Department of Education

The 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form became available on Dec. 31, 2023—with some big changes for students and families. Make sure to check out the Financial Aid Office's homepage for the most up to date information, and tune in for our Filing the FAFSA webinar for families on March 7! Registration and additional details are also available on our website.

Siblings Soar into the Foreign Service

When Xavier Ibrahim, SIS/BA ’23, made his first phone call as a Payne Fellow in January 2023, his mom and brother greeted him, cheering, on the other line. A year later, Khalil Ibrahim, SIS/BA ’21, celebrated becoming a Rangel Fellow in the same way: by dialing up his two biggest champions.

Management Track: 21 Eagles Named Finalists for Prestigious PMF

American University ranks sixth in the nation for 2024 Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) finalists with 21, besting Yale, Michigan, and UC Berkeley. The PMF is the premiere pipeline for steering graduates with advanced degrees into leadership positions throughout the federal government.

Hummus, Falafel, and the Unlikely Rise of Cava

Kogod hosted Brett Schulman, CEO of the DC-based fast casual Mediterranean restaurant chain, on February 14. During an hourlong conversation with Kogod dean David Marchick as part of the school’s Alan Meltzer CEO Speaker Series, Schulman said that while Cava has expanded to big cities and small towns—from Bryant Park in Manhattan to Birmingham, Alabama—its ascendency was no sure thing.
