Progress in Asia Helps Myeloma Patients Everywhere
In this week’s blog, IMF Chairman of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Brian G.M. Durie discusses exciting key takeaways and learnings from the recently concluded 7th Annual Asian Myeloma Network (AMN) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, and how all these initiatives and projects will make a lasting global impact for myeloma patients around the world. He is happy to report that wonderful benefits came out of the 3rd Doctor Masterclass Program, the 3rd Patient Forum, and the 7th Scientific Summit which focused on networking with myeloma experts from around Asia. Dr. Durie does a comprehensive summary of the following: Dr. Bruno Paiva’s keynote lecture; topics discussed during the Open Session; Working Group Reports; the current status of AMN Clinical Trials and New Research Projects; as well as the first-ever AMN awards ceremony, where Dr. Kazuyuki Shimizu— hemato-oncologist, long-time IMWG member, and former staff physician at Higashi Nagoya National Hospital— became the first recipient of the AMN Distinguished Service Award. As aptly put by Dr. Durie, the rest of the world will be watching and waiting to see if these projects get going and to find out when results will emerge.

Listen to IMF President and CEO Yelak Biru Share His Myeloma Story
On this episode of “Transforming Biopharma,” Managing Partner of ZS Associates Maria Whitman talks with International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) President and CEO Yelak Biru on how he merged his 25 years of data analytic expertise at Fortune 500 companies with his 28 years of living with the complex blood cancer multiple myeloma into a service-oriented mindset. Listen as Yelak shares that he is “not an advocate, but someone who is part of a relay race and I'm just carrying the baton from the person that came before me and I'm going to respectfully carry it forward and give it to the person that's going to come after me.” In his effort to pass this baton, Yelak leans on data, technology, and AI to envision a future where all patients are met exactly where they are in their disease journeys.
