American University Alumni Relations Events and Resources for New Eagle Families
Orientation 2023

Greetings Eagle Families!

We have been gearing up for Family Weekend - lining up speakers, tours, receptions, and other fun activities for students and their guests. But really, this weekend is for you and your student. Ask your student what they want to do during your visit and make memories together. Whether your Eagle Family includes parents, siblings and relatives, or it's a chosen family of friends and supporters - all are welcome.

We know that many families aren't able to join us in person. We'll share more ways that you can connect with us virtually. We are finalizing the details to live-stream our featured Family Weekend panel, Reimagining the American Dream: A conversation moderated by Jen Psaki as well as a special Fall Welcome webinar with Raymond Ou, our new Vice President of Student Affairs. Whether we get to greet you in person or online - we look forward to staying connected through our Family Update newsletters and our Family Webinar Series. As always, you are welcome to reach out to us any time at [email protected].

lET'S REVISIT: thE sTUDENT HEALTH CENTER

We're entering cold and flu season and this may be the first time your student is trying to tend to their health needs without your support. Embrace the opportunity to coach your young adult to assess their symptoms and seek appropriate care. Resist the urge to do this work for them - privacy laws and policies will restrict what you can do for them. Instead, help them explore their resources, rehearse their phone calls and craft their emails. Familiarize yourself with the services, appointment opportunities and policies of our Student Health Center so you're ready when your student calls you for support.

Career Center resources for your first year student

Students and recruiters at the job and internship fair

It's never too early to start exploring all the great resources that the Career Center can offer! First year students can't yet earn credit for internships, but they can certainly start to research their opportunities and build the networking and prep skills that will prepare them for their future search. Our Fall Job and Internship Fair is this Wednesday, September 27. We offer lots of pre-fair support to help students prepare and get the most out of this opportunity. Other resources help students to explore career guides by major, try some self-assessment and career exploration tools or sign up for resume reviews.

Did you know? All of our undergraduate students get a weekly email from the Career Center filled with opportunities to meet with recruiters, network or further their career exploration.
