Join us for an exclusive workshop ahead of the Geothermal Rising Conference

Hi friend,

You're invited to join Clean Air Task Force (CATF) to hear findings from our first-of-a-kind geothermal public opinion polling.

Next-generation geothermal energy has immense potential to meet global energy needs. But few people know about it, and most don't know how it works. Here, we will premiere our new report, which summarizes public opinion survey research results from the United States and Europe.

Key findings include:

  • Superhot rock energy is popular across both the U.S. and Europe
  • There are several misconceptions about next-generation geothermal energy and how it works
  • The public is concerned about the risks of next-generation geothermal energy production, and advocates must take those concerns seriously to enable public support for new technologies

Join us with fellow industry leaders to discuss the immense potential for education about next-generation geothermal energy and its benefits.

  • How do we leverage the latent support that already exists for next-generation geothermal?
  • How do we accurately and clearly communicate the risks of next-generation geothermal development and mitigation strategies for those risks?

Meet our panel

Charlene Wardlow

California Geologic Energy Management Division

Charlene Wardlow is the Geothermal Program Manager for the California Geologic Energy Management Division that oversees the drilling, maintenance, plugging and abandonment of geothermal wells located on state and private lands in California. Previously, she was the Northern District Deputy for five years, overseeing oil, gas, and underground gas storage operations in the state's northern half. Wardlow has a B.S. in geology and a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, NM. She has many decades of experience in geothermal energy, with 23 years at The Geysers and 10 years with Ormat Technologies, Inc., working in Imperial and Mono Counties. Her experience includes exploration, drilling, well operations, and power plant construction. She managed environmental compliance and permitting with the elected officials of local, state, and federal agencies, including community and public outreach.

Ryan Tracey

Sonoma Clean Power

Ryan Tracey leads long-term resource planning for Sonoma Clean Power, a Community Choice Aggregation serving Sonoma and Mendocino Counties in California. Ryan started at Sonoma Clean Power in 2019 after a career as an oil and gas reservoir engineer and has led SCP to design a supply portfolio that will mitigate 100% of its hourly carbon emission by 2026. In his role, Ryan spearheaded the creation of a Geothermal Opportunity Zone (GeoZone) to source much of that portfolio from local geothermal resources that will provide economic opportunity and energy resiliency for the local region. SCP is in the early stages of facilitating stakeholder engagement to inform the development of geothermal projects that are compatible with the values of the local community.

Terra Rogers

Clean Air Task Force

Terra Rogers is the Program Director for Superhot Rock Energy at CATF. In this capacity, Terra leads CATF’s geothermal strategy and technical team to make clean, safe, zero-carbon energy possible anytime, anywhere. In 2022 she joined CATF to create a global vision for superhot rock and implement pathways for large-scale deployment. Terra has been active in the renewable energy industry since 2004 and has served as Sr. Vice President, Program Director, and consultant to companies providing pioneering services and R&D solutions in the geothermal, biofuel, and energy storage markets.

Additional panelists will be announced in the coming days.
