Getting the Most Out of Chatbots: The Promise and Perils of Artificial Intelligence

In this week’s blog, IMF Chairman of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Brian G.M. Durie tackles the remarkable (and seemingly controversial) advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how to get the most out of using AI chatbot assistants (such as ChatGPT) for culling information from massive dataset resources. However, he also contrasts it with the possible pitfalls and disadvantages which may ensue from using this new technology. Dr. Durie delves deeper into the potential role of chatbots in addressing patient questions, the basics of using ChatGPT, as well as some common-sense warnings and “golden prompts” to better aid the user through the chatbot experience. While chatbots and AIs are here to stay, Dr. Durie strongly advises being cognizant of their limitations. He foresees that further improvements will still need to be made for AI tools to become optimal but is also optimistic that they will be beneficial to the myeloma community in the long run.
