Meet Devon Ombres, a leader on CAP's Courts and Legal Policy team working to change America's legal systems for the better.

Devon serves as Senior Director of Courts and Legal Policy, where his team focuses on reforms that make the nation’s legal system more just and accessible. Devon’s work highlights the importance of the courts in maintaining our democracy and highlights how judicial decisions focused onvery narrow issues can have massive impacts on the lives of everyday Americans.

In Devon's words, “the courts are central to maintaining a healthy and vibrant democracy. In recent years, we have seen that the Supreme Court is willing to put policy preferences over adherence to the law and longstanding precedent, all while ethics scandals pile up among the justices. It is critical that progressives make every effort to reestablish the courts as a bastion of justice and expanding rights for all Americans, rather than being beholden to rightwing and billionaire interests.”

Devon’s expertise lies in federal legislation, the Supreme Court, government reform and more. Some of his most recent work covers regulation on air pollution, the Supreme Court overturning the Chevron doctrine, and lowering prescription drug prices through the Inflation Reduction Act.
