Special Earth Day
News & Brews Event!

Join Maine Public on April 22 at the Maine Beer Company in Freeport for a trivia night themed to Maine Public’s Deep Dive: Climate Driven series.

The trivia fun starts at 6 p.m., but our news team will be there well in advance to talk about our climate reporting and field any comments and questions you may have. In fact, members of our news team will be assigned to trivia teams as “knowledgeable consultants” over the course of the trivia contest itself!

Space is limited, so create a team of 4 or 5, come up with a cool team name and email
[email protected] to register your group.

Poems From Here

We are excited to announce the return of Poems From Here to Maine Public Radio and Maine Public Classical. Poems From Here is designed to create a momentary community of speakers and listeners, where vibrant language slows time and helps us better pay attention to our world. This year’s series will feature a variety of voices from Maine including Maine Poet Laureate Julia Bouwsma; Poet and Educator Arisa White; Samaa Abdurraqib, Poet and Executive Director of Maine Humanities Council; Mihku Paul-Anderson, Poet and Artist; and Gibson Fay-LeBlanc, Executive Director of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.

Poems from Here is presented in collaboration with the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. Special thanks to Robert M. Chute and family along with Phil Steele and Francesca Galluccio-Steele for making this possible.

StoryCorps Military Voices Recording Sessions… still time to participate!

Maine Public, in partnership with StoryCorps, invites you to honor a Maine veteran, service member, or military family member in your life by listening to and recording their experiences. Our goal is to help preserve people’s stories for future generations.

If you know someone who would like to record their story, please let them know about this opportunity. Recorded sessions will be archived in the Library of Congress.

Recording sessions are being held this April and May. A virtual recording session is happening Monday, April 24 to Friday, April 28, and an in-person session is taking place at the Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society Museum at Fort Williams from May 29 to June 2.

Book a recording session by visiting mainepublic.org or by calling 1-800-850-4406. This initiative is made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
.

Maine Public at the
Maine Science Festival 2023

Maine Public staff and reporters (like Murray Carpenter, pictured above!) enjoyed meeting fellow science enthusiasts at the Maine Science Festival in Bangor this past March. We were an "Atmospheric Sponsor" of this yearly event and brought along a display of some of our Deep Dive Climate Driven reporting.

Mad Honey Up Next for Book Club

Our Book Club team has been busy finalizing the 2023 lineup to bring you some outstanding writers. Look for book club events with Mary Louise Kelly, Adam White, Ryan Britt, Paul Harding, and Bill Roorbach.

Next up is Jennifer Finney Boylan, coauthor of Mad Honey. The Washington Post has described Mad Honey as “Alternatingly heart-pounding and heartbreaking. This collaboration between two best-selling authors seamlessly weaves together Olivia and Lily’s journeys, creating a provocative exploration of the strength that love and acceptance require.”

The Mad Honey Book Club Event with Jennifer and Bill Nemitz will occur Thurs, May 4 at 7 p.m. A link to the event will be posted on our website a few days prior and emailed to Book Club Members. Maine Public's All Books Considered Book Club is made possible through the generous support of Bull Moose and Coffee By Design

Great Performances

"I am calling to thank you for great performances both last week with the Remember this Program and this week with The Hours. Extraordinary TV! This is some of the best TV I’ve ever seen and you guys are just amazing for putting it on the television, and I am so grateful to you. I don’t even know how to say thanks. This is some of the best TV, like I said The Great Performances shows, the Remember This, and The Hours. This stuff is mind-blowing, it’s life-changing television, it’s really a wonder. I am so grateful to you! I had to call and tell you. Thank you so very much."
