February is often a time when we think about what comes from our heart and is the perfect month for Rally to Read 100’s monthly theme: Compassion. We are honored to share New York Times bestselling author Joanna Ho’s read-aloud of her recently released book, Playing at the Border. Your students will be mesmerized by this reading that delivers a poignant picture book biography about the acclaimed musician Yo-Yo Ma, immigration, and using music to build bridges.
Use our pre and post book activities and classroom, student, and family theme activities to extend the learning around compassion all month long along with our activity packet of games and puzzles.
We are also excited to announce the line-up for our culminating event celebrating six months of Rally to Read. Join us on March 2nd, 2002, Read Across America Day, for our reading celebration webcast, Reading Inspires! Join authors Sandra Boynton, Chelsea Clinton, Monica Brown and other special guests as they share how reading has inspired them along with a read-aloud of one of their favorite books. Register today for this free event which will be available to view on demand throughout the month of March at RallytoRead.org/readacrossamerica.
Thank you for rallying with RIF to get our nation’s young readers excited to read.
Happy reading,
The RIF Team
