American University Alumni Relations Events and Resources for New Eagle Families
orientation 2022

Greetings Eagle Families,

We have been gearing up for Family Weekend - lining up speakers, tours, receptions, and other fun activities for students and their guests. But really, this weekend is for you and your student. Ask your student what they want to do during your visit and make memories together. Whether your Eagle Family includes parents, siblings and relatives, or it's a chosen family of friends and supporters - all are welcome.

We know that many families aren't able to join us in person. We'll share more ways that you can connect with us virtually, starting with our Fall Welcome webinar and discussion with Fanta Aw, VP of Undergraduate Enrollment, Campus Life, and Inclusive Excellence. You can also send your Eagle a shoutout on social media using the hashtag #AUEagleFamily and we'll share it on our big screens during select Family Weekend events. You can also encourage your student to grab a friend and come out for our events like Movie Night, the Change Can't Wait Festival and our exciting panel on Peaceful Transitions of Power, featuring two former White House Chiefs of Staff.

Whether we get to greet you in person or online - we look forward to staying connected through our Family Update newsletters and our Family Webinar Series. As always, you are welcome to reach out to us any time at [email protected].

From our nest to yours,
New Student and Family Programs

you've been asking

In these last few Orientation Weekly newsletters, we'll share answers to some of the questions that you have been asking.

Q: What's happening with EagleBucks and off-campus merchants?
A: We recently refreshed the list of off-campus businesses currently accepting EagleBucks. Our partner merchants may change for many reasons. Some businesses close or relocate. Some change their policies about which methods of payment they will accept. To reload EagleBucks or learn more about how they are used, check out our website

Q: Does AU offer isolation housing?
A: AU does not offer isolation housing for students who test positive for Covid-19 this fall. There are decals in every student residence hall room that explain what a student should do if they test positive and how our AU Covid Student Support Team can support them through their recovery period. More details about how this impacts students and their roommates are outlined in the Covid Guide for Residential Students.

If you are not sure where to direct your question, you can always reach out to us at [email protected] or explore our collection of quick links to help families find answers to frequently asked questions.
