Editor's note: The Supreme Court issued a ruling Friday overturning Roe v. Wade and leaving the matter of abortion access to the states. For more on what the decision means for Maine, read Kevin Miller's story here. This email was written before the ruling was issued.

It always makes me excited ...

… when I learn about high-profile people using their celebrity in ways that might do some pragmatic good. That’s why we’re highlighting a story about Olympic runner Allyson Felix launching a child care initiative to help athlete moms. I also think it’s important to highlight that childcare is still a major challenge for all kinds of parents across the U.S. and in Maine.

It’s a good reason to highlight our very first Deep Dive series that we undertook in 2019 to examine the state of Maine's child care system. Since we reported these stories, many of these challenges have only grown - thanks, in part, to the pandemic. You can read about it here

We’re still working on our next drop for Climate Driven next month in Penobscot county. We’ve had a bunch of reporters out in the field for those stories this week, and they always come back excited. So I know those stories will be good!

Elsewhere in The Ten: heat and health, cleaner water in the Androscoggin, and what climate change might mean for your finances.

Also, this just in, summer is officially here!
